Say hello to Hojicha.

 

With a slightly nuttier and toasty profile, Hojicha is the less caffeinated and milder cousin to matcha. The Japanese green tea leaves are first steamed and then roasted to make this aromatic, malt-like flavor profile, perfect for winding down in the late afternoon.

 

Prepare your Hojicha in the same way as you would matcha. For a stronger experience, use two grams, though usually 1-1.5 g is sufficient.

 

In most recipes, you could substitute Hojicha for Matcha, or vice versa, at a ratio of 1:1.
